Pediatric Occupational Therapy

 

 

 

Pediatric Occupational Therapy provides the skills to maximize independence in all areas of life after injury, illness, surgery, or a physical limitation at birth.  These treatments include rehabilitation for returning to work, leisure activities and self-cares.  Occupational therapy assists in regaining function to live as independently and safely as possible.

 

 

 

Occupational therapy may help children overcome disabling conditions by assisting their  developmental progress and teaching them to become as independent as possible. 

Therapist perform activities to improve:

  • balance

  • coordination

  • strength

  • fine motor skills

  • writing

  • activities of daily living such as feeding and dressing

  • play skills

  • SI (Sensory Integration)

Adult Occupational Therapy

   
Occupational therapy provides the skills to maximize independence in all areas of life after injury, illness, surgery, or a physical limitation at birth.  These treatments include rehabilitation for returning to work, leisure activities and self-cares, that assist in regaining function to live as independently and safely.
   
   

 

Occupational Therapy services include;

  • Instruction to reduce the safety risk of further injury in the home.
  • Instructions to improve memory, reasoning, problem solving and understanding directions.
  • Improving strength, coordination and movement to perform daily tasks.
  • Teaching to compensate for non-functioning limbs to increase independence.
  • Help improve perceptional skills.
  • Teach dressing, hygiene tasks, and eating for independence.
  • Instruction in the use of special equipment to increase daily task.
  • Training in task simplification for daily tasks.
  • Adaptation of wheelchairs to increase safety and comfort.
  • Adaptation of splints for hand or arm to maintain functional ability.
   
   
Referrals:    Occupational therapy referrals are made by physicians, audiologists, psychologists, other medical personnel, daycare centers, and families.  Once a referral is made, orders will be coordinated through a primary care physician.
